Rod Stewart Albums
Collection 1969-2019

Roderick David (Rod) Stewart (Londen, 10 januari 1945) is 
een Britse rockzanger bekend om zijn rauwe bluesy stem. 
Hij wordt de witte met de zwarte stem genoemd of ook wel 
eens de laatste "song and dance man" vanwege zijn podium-
persoonlijkheid. Er zijn ruim 250 miljoen platen van hem ver-
kocht. Rod Stewart is CBE (Commander of the order of The 
British Empire), een onderscheiding die hij eind 2006 (New 
Year's Honours) kreeg uitgereikt door Elizabeth II vanwege 
zijn culturele en artistieke verdiensten voor het Verenigd Ko-
ninkrijk. Hij is ook opgenomen in de Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, 
als solist en (in 2012) als lid van zijn ex-band The Faces. Rod 
Stewart solo en vooral ook Rod Stewart samen met de Faces 
wordt door vele artiesten als hun grote voorbeeld genoemd, 
zoals o.a. Alanis Morissette, The Black Crowes, Stereophonics, 
Pearl Jam (die zelfs enkele riffs van de Faces geleend heb-
ben) tot zelfs Rage Against The Machine. Paul Cook en Steve 
Jones van de Sex Pistols hebben jaren na hun punkglorie toe-
gegeven dat het nummer Pool Hall Richard (1973) van de 
hand van Rod Stewart en Ron Wood voor hun de eerste echte 
Britse punk-song was, de tekst Bang go the Queen, she's so ob-
scene, her hands are dirty but her image clean, Pool Hall 
Richard, kid you're wicked, whe now! zegt genoeg. Rod Stewart 
zelf is een groot bewonderaar van zanger en acteur Elvis Pres-
ley. Hij zei eens: "Elvis was en is nog steeds The King en zal dat 
altijd blijven, dat staat buiten kijf. Mensen als ikzelf, Mick Jag-
ger en al die anderen volgden hem alleen in zijn voetsporen." 
Tot zijn grote voorbeelden behoren tevens Sam Cooke , Otis 
Redding en Aretha Franklin van wie hij Natural Woman bewer-
kte tot Natural Man voor zijn in '74 verschenen album Smiler.
