The Doors Albums
Collection 1966-2018

The Doors was een Amerikaanse band uit de jaren 1965-1973. 
De naam is ontleend aan 'The Doors of Perception', de titel van 
een boek van Aldous Huxley, die op zijn beurt de frase had ont-
leend aan een gedicht van William Blake: "If the doors of percep-
tion were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infi-
nite". Omdat de beeldbepalende zanger van de band, Jim Morri-
son, in de zomer van 1971 overleed, zijn sommigen van mening 
dat de band met zijn wegvallen ophield te bestaan. The Doors 
maakten rockmuziek met psychedelische melodieën en poëti-
sche teksten. De leden van de band schreven hun werk meestal 
onder invloed van de drugs zoals lsd. In de originele bezetting za-
gen zes studioalbums het licht. Na de dood van Jim Morrison in 
1971 werden nog twee studioalbums met nieuwe nummers uit-
gebracht, waarop Ray Manzarek en Robby Krieger de zang over-
namen. Na bijna 30 jaar kwam het tot een reünie. Onder impuls 
van gitarist Robby Krieger en keyboardspeler Ray Manzarek, aan-
gevuld met Ian Astbury als vervanger van Jim Morrison, bereis-
den ze concertzalen onder de naam The Doors of the 21st Cen-
tury. Drummer John Densmore weigert tot op heden deel te ne-
men aan een reünie. Zijn opstelling leidde in juli 2005 tot een 
rechtszaak die hij won. Het gevolg hiervan is dat de band vanaf 
november 2005 de naam Riders on the Storm draagt
