Connie Smith (geboren Constance June Meador , 14 augustus 1941) is een Amerikaanse countryzanger . Haar altvocalen zijn door muziekschrijvers beschreven als belangrijk en invloedrijk voor de vrouwen van de countrymuziek. Er is een gelijkenis opgemerkt tussen haar vocale stijl en de stijl van countryzanger Patsy Cline . Andere artiesten hebben Smith genoemd als invloed op hun eigen zangstijlen, wat door de jaren heen in citaten en interviews tot uiting is gekomen.

Smith, ontdekt in 1963, tekende het jaar daarop bij RCA Victor Records en bleef bij het label tot 1973. Haar debuutsingle " Once a Day " bereikte nummer één in de Billboard Hot Country Songs- hitlijst in november 1964 en bleef acht dagen op de toppositie. weken. Het nummer werd de grootste hit van Smith en werd genomineerd voor de Grammy Awards voor Best Female Country Vocal Performance . Tegelijkertijd besteedde Smith meer tijd aan het opvoeden van haar vijf kinderen dan aan muziek. Ze ging uiteindelijk met pensioen in 1979. Smith zou halverwege de jaren tachtig kort terugkeren naar de opnames bij Epic Records . Het was echter pas tijdens haar samenwerking met Marty Stuart in de jaren negentig dat ze definitief terugkeerde. Hun muzikale vriendschap zou romantisch worden, wat leidde tot hun huwelijk in 1997. De combinatie leidde tot Smith's eerste studioalbum in 20 jaar, Connie Smith​ Smith werd alom geprezen en begon weer op te treden en heeft sindsdien nog twee studioalbums opgenomen.

Smith is genomineerd voor 11 Grammy Awards , waaronder acht nominaties voor Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Ze is ook genomineerd voor 1 Academy of Country Music- prijs en 3 Country Music Association- prijzen. Rolling Stone plaatste haar op hun lijst van de 100 beste countryartiesten en CMT plaatste haar in de top tien van hun lijst van de 40 beste vrouwen in de countrymuziek. Ze maakt sinds 1965 deel uit van de cast van Grand Ole Opry . In 2012 werd Smith opgenomen in de Country Music Hall of Fame .
