Greatest Hits Albums

▲ Een Greatest Hits-album of best-of- album is een 
soort verzamelalbum dat populaire en commercieel 
succesvolle nummers van een bepaalde artiest of 
band verzamelt. Hoewel albums met de grootste hits 
doorgaans worden ondersteund door de artiest, kun-
nen ze ook door platenmaatschappijen worden ge-
maakt zonder de uitdrukkelijke toestemming van de 
oorspronkelijke artiest als een middel om verkoop te 
genereren. Ze worden doorgaans beschouwd als een 
goed startpunt voor nieuwe fans van een artiest, 
maar worden door oude fans soms bekritiseerd als 
niet inclusief genoeg of helemaal niet noodzakelijk.
Het is ook gebruikelijk dat albums met de grootste hits 
remixen of alternatieve takes van populaire nummers 
als bonustracks bevatten om de aantrekkingskracht 
voor oude fans te vergroten (die anders misschien al 
de eigenaar van de opgenomen nummers waren). 
Soms markeert een bundel van de grootste hits het 
eerste album van een succesvolle single die nooit aan 
een vorig studioalbum was gehecht.▼
