Davis Ashura is een Amerikaanse schrijver van fantasy boeken. Ik weet niet helemaal meer waarom ik deze toentertijd heb opgehaald, maar ik heb ze nu toch dus kan ik ze net goed even delen voor eventuele andere liefhebbers van het genre. 

De reeks The Chronicles of William Wilde wordt vaak gezien als young adult fantasy of zelfs boeken voor kinderen, maar Ashura zelf heeft aangegeven dat hij bij nader inzien niet zo blij is met dat labeltje en hij beschouwt het gewoon als fantasy. Hij geeft ook aan dat de keuze voor de covers wat onhandig was. Latere boeken in de reeks worden ook duisterder en zijn geen young adult meer.

Of zoals hij zelf aangeeft in het voorwoord van de omnibus versie The Complete Chronicles of William Wilde:
One other note. I made a lot of mistakes in the initial marketing of William Wilde. The series title, the book titles, and the cover art for the individual books make it seem like the books are aimed for children. That isn’t the case. True, the first book in the series was written for my teenage sons and is YA. But in my heart, I write epic fantasy, and unadulterated epic fantasy is what the series becomes starting at book 2.

De Complete Chronicles of William Wilde omnibus zit hier overigens niet bij, want ik heb de voorkeur gegeven aan de losse boeken omdat ik dat zelf prettiger vind. Hetzelfde geldt voor de omnibus versie van de Castes and the OutCastes reeks.

Instrument of Omens is het meest recente boek en tevens het eerste boek uit een nieuwe reeks.
