Post Description
Malefic decided to end Xasthur in 2010 and formed an acoustic/dark folk project called Nocturnal Poisoning. At the time, Malefic stated that it was a different band. In 2015, he changed the name of that band to Xasthur and stated "I've returned to the name again since early 2015, it'll stay that way, but the 'black metal' Xasthur is definitely over." Despite that, the band eventually started to bring back black metal into their sound on their 2023 album Inevitably Dark.
The name Xasthur is a composite of Hastur, a demon in the Necronomicon that kills people in their sleep, and Xenaoth, a higher celestial spirit from the Santeria religion. An original idea for the name was Xasthuriath, but was then shortened to Xasthur on the release of the now-destroyed rehearsal tape in 1997.
