Post Description
Acoustic, English folk, singer-songwriter.
‘Almost A Sunset ‘ is the seventh album from Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman. It is a collection of thoughtful, varied songs that range from re-worked traditional ballads to the off-piste storytelling style that has become their trademark.
It has been five years since the last offering from the popular husband and wife duo and this new album proves that the wait was very much worth it. It’s a ‘tour de force’ of musical and lyrical surprises.
Recorded at Devon-pace in their studio on Dartmoor over the course of a year, the couple explore favourite characters, childhood memories and deep emotion to pull together a collection of songs that demonstrate their musical versatility, a sharp interest in the world around them and their own unique perspective on the folk genre.
Folking.com - ‘It’s the real thing. A record of great contrasts from the boisterous to the thoughtful with some very special songs.’
Folk Radio UK - ‘The highly accomplished British folk duo draw on traditional roots, refracted through a contemporary lens; this is not so much a sunset as the dawn of a glorious new chapter in their increasingly illustrious career.’
At The Barrier - ‘The Roberts & Lakeman partnership surpass even themselves.’
‘Their skill in matching narrative with unfailingly magnetic and seductive tunes makes Almost A Sunset such a resounding success.’
