Dokter Hank Pym heeft een stof ontwikkeld waardoor hij materie enorm kan verkleinen en gelijktijdig het veel meer kracht kan geven. Hij verwerkt dit in een speciaal pak en de militaire potentie wordt snel duidelijk.
Pym wil daar echter niets van weten maar wordt door zijn assistent Darren Cross buitenspel gezet. Pym moet de hulp inroepen van de wat sullige inbreker Scott Lang om door middel van het spectaculaire Ant-man pak de duistere plannen van Cross te verijdelen.
