Europe is een Zweedse band uit Upplands Väsby. Oorspronkelijk was Europe een progressieve rock-groep, maar om meer airplay te krijgen stapte Europe over op een softer geluid met een prominentere rol voor de keyboards. De band begon in 1979 onder de naam "Force". Ze wonnen in Zweden in eind 1979 onder de naam 'Europe', 'Luciarock', een talentenjacht voor bands. Ze speelden daar "In the Future to come" en "The king will return". Deze nummers zijn terug te vinden op hun eerste cd 'Europe'.

Europe brak internationaal door met het nummer The Final Countdown uit 1986. Er is ook een wereldtour geweest die 'The final countdown' heette. Dit nummer stond in veel landen, waaronder Nederland en België, op nummer 1 en geldt voor velen als een rock-klassieker. Het was in Nederland de bestverkochte single van 1986. Gedurende de jaren 80 scoorde Europe nog een paar hits, waarvan Rock the Night, Carrie en Superstitious de bekendste zijn. In Japan geldt Seven doors hotel, een nummer van het debuutalbum Europe, als een rockklassieker. Het werd daar gebruikt als leader in een bekende film.
