Sam Rothstein, die vanwege zijn succesvolle gokmethoden de bijnaam Ace kreeg, is een jeugdvriend van Nicky Santoro. Als Ace een carrière krijgt in een casino in Las Vegas, volgt Nicky niet veel later, maar anders dan Ace laat hij zich in met misdadige organisaties.
