Post Description
The act of writing music is an extremely personal and therapeutic expression of oneself, a chance to understand ones own emotions and channel them into something that reflects that state of mind. For Jade MacRae to then release this and find success is another feat that only few artists can master.
To then maintain a place in the public eye and not only this, but grow as an artists through genres, emotional states, writing styles and image, is something that only a few musicians manage to do. Luckily for us, Jade MacRae has managed to not only maintain her place in the Australian music scene but has consistently excelled.
In her earlier musical years MacRae made music with the likes of Sleepy Jackson and Pnau as well as singing in a band with Mahalia Barnes. Her debut single ‘You Make Me Weak’ was released in 2004 to wide success and MacRae has gone from strength to strength since then.
Over the next decade MacRae gained herself a string of ARIA nominations and released a number of albums that all garnered her more supporters, fans and attention. The start of the new decade see’s MacRae doing what all good artists do – shaping her art the match herself.
In the last year the singer has cemented herself as one of the staple names in the Australian soul music scene, with ‘Up Above Your Head’ and ‘I Choose Love’ finding themselves placed in media across the globe.
The release of her album Handle Me With Care is sure to make waves in the soul world and beyond, it is now time for her to gift the album.
“It’s the album I always wanted to make,” she says. “When I first started writing and recording years ago, I always regarded myself as a Soul singer but ironically I’ve never made a true Soul record.
“Having come through some really difficult times in my personal life, I finally gave myself permission to do just that, and in doing so, I’ve made what feels like my most authentic record to date by far,” she adds. “Being able to collaborate with so many exceptional musicians on this project, and recording everything live to tape felt so good, and allowed me to feel completely free to express myself.”
The 12 track release is a mature musical journey though personal experiences of love, loss, hope and new beginnings. Stand out tracks: ‘Nobody But You’, ‘How Long’ and ‘Oh My Darling’ see MacRae highlight her amazing vocal range and ability to not just sing the right notes but to express infinite amounts of emotion in the stories she tells.
With a backing of expert musicians behind her it is an album sure to see itself in Australia’s Soul music canon.
