All in the Family is / was een Amerikaanse komedie (sitcom) die oorspronkelijk werd uitgezonden door het “CBS television network” van 1971 tm 1979. In Nederland werd All in the Family uitgezonden door de VPRO en de eerste afleveringen konden wij zien vanaf 1972. In het kort ging de serie over het leven van een werkende man (arbeiders klasse) met veel vooroordelen en zijn familie. Het bijzondere aan deze serie was dat ze moeilijke onderwerpen behandelden die zeker voor die tijd eigenlijk ongeschikt werden gevonden voor de televisie. Denk aan onderwerpen zoals racisme, homoseksualiteit, recht voor vrouwen, geloof, abortus, oorlog in Vietnam, etc. Ondanks deze lastige onderwerpen werd de serie zeer goed bekeken en had zodoende veel invloed op de publieke opinie.
