The Foundations was een Britse soulband.

Al tijdens de herfst van 1967 werd de single Baby Now That I've Found You een bestseller. Ook de daarop volgende single Back On My Feet Again (1968) bereikte tenminste een plaats onder de top 20. Het debuutalbum From The Foundations daarentegen verkocht niet echt goed. De volgende single Any Old Time You're Lonely and Sad kwam onder de top 30 en de opvolger Build me Up Buttercup, geschreven door Mike d'Abo, werd een miljoenenseller. Curtis verliet kort daarna de band en zijn vervanger werd Colin Young uit Barbados. De single In The Bad Bad Old Days lukte aan het begin van 1969 nog een keer de sprong in de top 10. My Little Chickadee en Born to Live and Born to Die waren slechts nog vertegenwoordigd in de onderste regionen van de charts. In 1970 werden The Foundations ontbonden.

Zanger Clem Curtis, die na zijn afscheid een solocarrière startte, overleed op 27 maart 2017 op 76-jarige leeftijd aan de gevolgen van longkanker.
