Danny B. Harvey werd geboren in Killeen, Texas en verhuisde op 6-jarige leeftijd naar Catlettsburg, KY. waar hij voor het eerst gitaar begon te spelen. 

Op 15-jarige leeftijd na verhuizing naar Canyon Country, CA. hij had het geluk zijn eerste formele lessen te krijgen met de geweldige JOE PASS.
 
Tot dan toe had hij leren spelen door alleen naar oudere countrygitaristen in Ashland, KY en Huntington WV te kijken, en hij werd verliefd op de gitaarstijl van landgenoot MERLE TRAVIS.
