Post Description

Alternative, indie, pop.

Een fraaie mix van bovengenoemde genres en een stem waar ik niet over uit kan; buigzaam, spot-on en een bereik van hier tot Tokyo. Prachtig.

Woodes’ ‘Kingdom Come’ EP is a journey through nature and self-discovery.

“Kingdom Come” weaves together Woodes’ dynamic vocals, delicate piano melodies, and beats, creating a sound that is both alluring and thought-provoking. The EP’s title track takes listeners on an emotional journey, with Woodes’ voice soaring over a horn-boosted bridge supported by a heavenly choir. The accompanying music video adds a visual layer to the song’s narrative, employing the metaphor of building and destroying sandcastles to represent the collapse of a relationship. Woodes’ introspection and vulnerability shine through in every note, allowing listeners to connect deeply with her personal experiences.

“It’s very personal. It goes through exactly what happened.” Woodes explains about the title track of her EP. “I was in a relationship I thought would go on forever. I had to recalibrate and find a place where I felt I could write about it to process it. I had to freefall for a bit and ended up staying with friends. In the relationship we were building a kingdom, and it fell down. So, for the video, we built hundreds of sandcastles on the beach and knocked them all down.”

Amidst the pandemic-induced chaos, Woodes found herself at a crossroads, emerging from a long-term relationship and embarking on a journey of self-discovery. Collaborating with friend and fellow artist Danny Harley in Brisbane, Australia, Woodes has crafted a truly authentic and independent project with this EP. This EP showcases a pure and resolute version of Woodes, reflecting her unwavering commitment and passion for her craft.
While themes of healing and introspection underpin the lyrics and concepts of the EP, Woodes also draws inspiration from her profound connection with nature. For this project, she traded elaborate costuming and digital world-building for a more organic approach, allowing the natural world and her circle of friends to shape the creative process.
“Kingdom Come” marks Woodes’ fourth solo project. With each release, Woodes continues to captivate with her unique blend of introspective storytelling.
