Smokin' Joe Kubek was een Amerikaanse elektrische bluesgitarist en songwriter, geboren op 30 november 1956 in Grove City, Pennsylvania, VS, hoewel hij opgroeide in de buurt van Dallas. Als tiener speelde hij een korte tijd met Freddie King en vanaf de jaren 80 speelde, toerde en nam hij op met Bnois King tot aan zijn dood.

Joe Kubek stierf aan een hartaanval in zijn slaap in Wilmington, North Carolina, op 11 oktober 2015, kort voordat hij het podium zou betreden op het Pleasure Island Seafood & Blues Festival , met als headliner Dr. John . Hij werd overleefd door zijn vrouw sinds 1999, Phyllis.
