Earth Encounters Vol. 1 from Spitfire Audio is a sound library and collection of composer tools built around 11,491 samples taken from David Fanshawe's vast archive of ethnic world music. The volume, produced in collaboration with Fanshawe One World Music, covers an extensive selection of performances and performance elements recorded in the 1960's, 70's, and 80's during the actual dances and rituals of peoples of various African and Asian countries. The represented countries include Kenya, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar, Zaire, Egypt, China, Indonesia, Thailand, and Tibet.

The wealth of sampled material is organized into folders of Atmos, Loops, Single Hits, and eDNA Warped content. Some of the performances are purely instrumental, while others combine instrumental and vocal elements. Many kinds of traditional instruments come up in the performances, among them rudimentary wind and string instruments, and a wide variety of percussion. The Atmos section goes beyond musical performances in its portrayal of ambience soundscapes featuring buzzing insects, croaking frogs, tropical fauna, a mountain brook, a Tanzanian river, a bazaar in Zanzibar, and more.

Besides being a sound library, Earth Encounters provides tools for seeding compositions with music from diverse cultures. The library's sounds are performable from a keyboard, some over a range of pitches and others on a single key. Controls on the UI enable you to modulate the tempo of the samples, allowing for rubato, accelerando, and ritardando effects. Moreover, the samples can be synced to the exact pitch and bpm rate of your tracks for maximum adaptability to your score. Created via the eDNA script engine, the Warped section is a collection of synth-processed sounds which draws on the library's samples for raw material. Also included is the Mercury Synth engine, featuring an alternative set of synth tools for more traditional effects. Earth Encounters runs on the Kontakt 5 player, the full version of which comes with the library.
