Post Description

Folk.

Fans of David Francey are in for a real treat.

Some of you may recall that David’s last release, his twelfth album, The Broken Heart of Everything, was released in 2018. In his album review, David Morrison revealed: Almost two decades of hard touring and the physical ravages of an equal period of time as a construction worker toiling in all weathers have finally taken their toll on Francey’s voice. So in order to fully recover, there would be no live or studio activity for the foreseeable future. Thankfully, this proved not to be the case, and in 2020, David followed up his album review with an interview in which Francey revealed:

“Concerning the loss of my voice, I kept ignoring it because I love my job and I love the road, but it got to the point where I apparently wore my voice out,” he began. “The only solution doctors came up with was rest, but I went to see a vocal specialist and got a bunch of exercises I could do. Hopefully, it’ll come back 100%; it feels pretty close now, but I have to take it easier than I was prior to that. The slowest thing to come back is the power of my voice, but I know how to work a microphone and, fortunately, I work with a lot of great sound people, so we’re getting there.”

Sadly, we lost David Morrison in May this year (read our tribute here), but I know he would have been over the moon that David was releasing another album; he was a big fan.
Francey says about his new album, “The songs on this record tumbled out of my life and, as always, fell somewhere between love and loss, those great movers of the heart. We are living in the breath between our first and last, so all the more reason to have at it, to hold the ones that went ahead dear and to keep making memories.”

On his lead single, “I Called it Love”, David is joined by musicians Mark Westberg, Darren McMullen, Terra Spencer, Pastelle LeBlanc, Emmanuelle LeBlanc and Pascal Miousse. It was recorded at The Old Church Studio in Phillipsburg, Quebec.

As David said of Francey’s last album – the gorgeous, rustic folk melodies and Francey’s lyrical prowess remain as reliably solid as they have been since his 1999 debut, Torn Screen Door…
