Spitfire Audio – Kepler Orchestra 2022 a complete set of notes that are repeated and timed to the host tempo. The repetitions are played straight at one dynamic with up to 14 rhythmical subdivisions, each of which can be independently mapped to 10 keyboard zones using a solitaire-style “peg board” grid that displays mapping assignments as tiny colored lights. There are no tonal evolutions in this piece. It’s easy to use: load an ensemble, hold down a key, and you’ll get a satisfying forward momentum from an insistent, pulsing single-note repetition with built-in light on-beat accents.

Spitfire Audio – Kepler Orchestra 2022 three string sections’ pulsing repetitions, which mitigate the pointed, percussive, somewhat manic quality of today’s string spiccato and still manage to sound urgent, powerful, and propulsive at faster tempos. These strings have a more expansive “brushed” sound, and at slower tempos, their re-bowed performances sound lush and leisurely. I was particularly taken with the pizzicato bass energy that rumbled in the low end. Ben Foskett’s orchestration of the high brass, low brass, and woodwind ensembles beautifully mimics the rich, full timbre and rounded note attacks of the strings, with the bassoon excelling in the low register of the woodwinds.

Spitfire has produced a number of “snapshot” patches to get you going. One outstanding example is “Time Madness,” a ferocious, joyous swirl of violins and violas.
High string and cello repetitions in muted (softer) and sul ponticello (harder, more wiry) styles are additional variations.
The front end for Spitfire’s “warped” effects is a different, more straightforward interface known as the Mercury synth.
Simply load an ensemble to use it.
